FENCES

In Istanbul, a mosque raises its minarets behind a wall bristling with barbed wire. In the foreground, two veiled women walk with a sleeping child, fragile presences between the sacred and constraint. Fences layers faith, surveillance and everyday life to reveal the contradictions of a city where the yearning for the sky still meets the boundaries erected by people and human fears.

Gortoz A Ran from the film BLACK HAWK DOWN

0:000:00

Gortoz A Ran wraps the image in an ancient, slow and profoundly human lament. Lisa Gerrard’s voice seems to cross the barbed wire to reach the minarets, carrying with it waiting, exile and hope. The music turns the scene into a silent prayer, suspended between earthly confinement and the desire for the absolute, for inner freedom.
