Portrait of Clint, Nicolas Drapier.

THE ARTIST

Clint, the artist name of Nicolas Drapier, a French photographer based in Paris.

I photograph moments that already feel like cinema.

In the street, I look for those moments when everyday life suddenly seems to belong to another story: a lone figure in a crowd, a lingering glance, light that transforms a familiar setting, or a coincidence that will last only a fraction of a second.

I develop narrative street photography inspired by cinema and music. My images seek to do more than show what happened. They invite you to imagine what came before, what might follow, and everything that remains outside the frame.

Each photograph thus becomes the opening shot of an invisible film, whose continuation the viewer is free to invent.

MY ARTISTIC APPROACH

Cinema, my lifelong inspiration.

I usually walk without a set route. I prefer to let the city decide what it will show me.

I take a photograph when independent elements suddenly seem to respond to one another: a character and their setting, a shadow and a gesture, movement in a crowd, light or a reflection. For a few seconds, reality creates its own staging. My work is to recognise it before it disappears.

Cinema profoundly influences the way I look. I build my images around characters, tensions, silences and what lies beyond the frame. I do not try to tell a complete story, but to capture a fragment open enough for everyone to project their own story onto it.

Black and white allows me to focus on the essential, to isolate lines, gestures and relationships between people. Colour comes into play when it becomes an element of the story in its own right: a focal point, a disruption or an emotional presence.

My cinephotographic capsules grew out of this meeting of photography, cinema and music. Each pairs an image with a soundtrack chosen to extend its atmosphere and open up new ways of reading it.

Music does not simply illustrate the photograph. It changes the rhythm of looking, amplifies a tension or reveals an emotion that had remained silent. The image becomes an experience to look at, but also to listen to.

MY JOURNEY

Self-taught and passionate.

My relationship with photography began with the family film camera. Through it, I discovered the pleasure of framing, waiting and choosing, long before trying to define a practice or style.

The arrival of digital photography allowed me to explore this fascination with images more freely. Self-taught, I gradually developed my eye in the street, during my travels and journeys. Paris remains my main place of observation, but I also photograph the cities I pass through, from Lisbon to Istanbul, from Berlin to Seville, with the same attention to ordinary scenes and anonymous stories.

My professional background in technology taught me to analyse, structure and anticipate. Photography taught me the opposite: to accept the unexpected, remain open and trust what escapes control. This tension between construction and chance now feeds the way I photograph.

Under the name Clint, I have been developing a personal body of work around street photography and visual storytelling for several years. A member of Street Photography France, I have presented my work in several exhibitions in France and internationally, as well as through a zine devoted to my world. My photographs have now joined private collections in France and abroad.

Some of my photographs have now joined private collections. But every new image remains, above all, an encounter: with a place, a character or a moment that will never happen again.

A photograph is never the end of a story. It is always the opening shot.
