BELÉM GHOSTS
The meeting had been arranged where footsteps lose themselves in the lines of the ground. One silhouette moves forward too quickly; another seems to have chosen to wait. Between them, the sky draws its curtain of clouds closed. Perhaps a first name will be spoken; perhaps the film will keep this silence, like a door left ajar.

Pinta, Nina, Santa Maria (Into Eternity) from the film 1492: Conquest of Paradise
In this vast square, the blurred silhouettes seem to be crossing not so much a place as a memory. The title Pinta, Nina, Santa Maria opens the image towards the idea of departure: the monument becomes a mast, the crowd a swell, and the waiting takes on the duration of a cinematic shot.
