Within the brutal architecture of the Patio de Montparnasse, a lone figure climbs a monumental staircase. Concrete, curved lines and shadows form a cold labyrinth in which the human presence seems almost out of place. Beneath the shops’ sign, a futile promise of activity, Alone captures a vertical solitude: that of a person moving through a city that has become too vast for them, with no visible horizon or reassuring human presence.

The deep layers of Mesa stretch space until it becomes almost unreal. Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch give the concrete a futuristic gravity, made of breath, menace and silence. The music accompanies the solitary ascent like an inner journey, towards a dehumanised world from which no way out seems certain.
